Product Description

Ludwig Loewe Mauser Modelo 1895 Chilean Contract Sporter, 7x57mm, 23 in Barrel, Antique, Weaver Offset Side-Mount Base Included

This antique Ludwig Loewe Mauser Modelo 1895 Chilean Contract rifle is a sporterized 7x57mm build using the classic small-ring 1895 action. It features a 23-inch tapered sporter barrel with no iron sights, a walnut sporter stock with a raised cheekpiece, and an aftermarket cocking-piece safety marked "MARK II." The receiver is drilled and tapped on the left rail for an offset side mount, and a Weaver two-ring side-mount base is included. The receiver shows the Chilean crest and correct Loewe Berlin markings, and the bore is clean with sharp rifling.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Good condition, showing some signs of prior use and handling.

Bore Condition: Excellent - Clean, mirror finish, no signs of wear.

Bore Rifling: Excellent Rifling - Sharp lands and grooves.

Specific Condition Notes: There are scratches and handling marks on the walnut stock. The receiver shows finish wear and scattered scratches. This rifle has no iron sights.

    What’s Included

    • Weaver two-ring offset side-mount base

Built by Ludwig Loewe in Berlin for the Chilean contract, this rifle retains the desirable small-ring 1895 Mauser action architecture, including the left-side thumb cut, controlled-round feed with the large non-rotating extractor, no charger bridge, and a straight bolt handle. The receiver ring carries the Chilean national crest, and the receiver is marked "MAUSER CHILENO MODELO 1895 – MANUFACTURA LOEWE BERLIN."

The sporter configuration centers on a 23-inch round, tapered barrel with no front sight. The original rear sight assembly was removed and replaced by a polished filler/blank, leaving a clean top line with no open sights. The left receiver rail is drilled and tapped (two holes) for an offset side mount; the included Weaver two-ring offset side-mount base has three receiver-mount holes and does not directly match the rifle’s two-hole pattern, so installation may require an additional hole or a different base.

The walnut sporter stock offers a raised cheekpiece and is fitted with a steel buttplate and inlet sling loops. Length of pull measures 13.0 inches for a compact, traditional hunting stock geometry.

Metalwork details include a steel receiver, with the bolt and several small parts left in-the-white, and bottom metal that also appears in-the-white. An aftermarket cocking-piece safety marked "MARK II" is installed at the rear of the bolt.

Feeding is through a fixed internal box magazine with a 4+1 capacity in 7x57mm Mauser. The rifle dates to the 1895–1896 production era and was manufactured in Germany.
