This early no-dash Model 586 is an L-frame Distinguished Combat Magnum from 1981 with the classic 4-inch heavy barrel and full underlug. It features a high-polish blued carbon-steel construction, target-style wood grips with S&W medallions, and adjustable iron sights with a pinned orange-insert ramp front. It comes with a factory blue cardboard box whose end label matches the revolver (serial prefix AAN), and the yoke cut shows no "M" recall stamp.

Built on the robust L-frame, this no-dash Model 586 pairs .357 Magnum capability with a six-shot fluted cylinder and smooth double-action/single-action operation. It also chambers .38 Special and .38 Special +P.
The 4-inch carbon-steel barrel uses a heavy profile with a full underlug and ribbed top. The high-polish blued finish complements the exposed, color case-hardened hammer with a checkered spur and a smooth-faced trigger.
Sighting is straightforward and precise with a pinned ramp front sight featuring an orange insert and a fully adjustable rear sight. Control surfaces include a checkered cylinder latch and a knurled ejector-rod tip for positive handling.
Furniture consists of checkered wood target-style grips with S&W medallions. Factory markings include the S&W round-logo rollmark on the right side of the frame, "SMITH & WESSON" on the left side of the barrel, and "S.&W. .357 MAGNUM" on the right side. The yoke cut is stamped "MOD. 586" with additional factory assembly markings "A10" over "23943," and no "M" recall stamp is observed.
