Produced by Small Arms Limited (Long Branch) in Canada during WWII, this 1942 No.4 Mk I* reflects Canadian wartime manufacture with the model’s simplified Mk I* bolt-head withdrawal slot in the receiver in place of the separate bolt-release catch. The serial number location is on the right side of the butt-socket/band, consistent with Long Branch production practices.
The rifle retains hallmark No.4 features: a charger bridge for clip-loading, a No.4 spigot-style bayonet boss at the muzzle, and an alloy buttplate with a trap for an oiler/pull-through. Two barrel bands are present, including a mid-band with sling swivel, supporting field service handling and carry options.
Furniture is hardwood with a full-length, two-piece stock, a straight-comb butt, and two upper handguards. The upper handguard shows longitudinal grasping grooves typical of the pattern. The receiver is steel, and the length of pull measures 13.0 inches.
Sighting equipment includes a front blade with protective ears and a receiver-mounted aperture rear sight. The 25.2-inch barrel and excellent bore with sharp rifling complement the .303 British chambering. Feeding is via the included detachable 10-round steel box magazine, with a capacity of 10+1.
This example also arrives with a khaki web sling marked "T & A. H. 1944" and Broad Arrow, installed on the rifle, which aligns well with the rifle’s WWII Canadian origin.
