What's Included
- Winchester Model 71 Standard Rifle (.348 Win.)
- Original Winchester No. 98A bolt peep sight
The Model 71 was purpose-built for the .348 Winchester and produced in relatively modest numbers, adding interest for shooters and collectors alike. This rifle dates to 1947, aligning with the period when Winchester discontinued the 20 in carbine and continued the Standard 24 in rifle configuration.
It wears a 24 in round steel barrel, a top-eject receiver, and an under-barrel tubular magazine with the factory short/three-quarter magazine tube. The Standard-grade furniture consists of an uncheckered walnut pistol-grip stock and matching walnut forend.
Sighting equipment includes a ramp-mounted front blade and a folding semi-buckhorn rear with elevator. Notably, it also carries the original Winchester No. 98A bolt peep sight, a desirable factory setup that complements the iron sights.
The stock is fitted with an aftermarket Pachmayr White Line recoil pad, yielding a 14.0 in length of pull. Barrel and receiver markings include: Winchester Proof Steel, Winchester Model 71 and caliber designations, and Made in U.S.A. Winchester Repeating Arms Co., New Haven, Conn.
