The New Englander design pairs a single-shot sidelock percussion action with a robust 26 in round blued barrel for dependable black powder use. Ignition is via percussion cap on a drum/bolster, actuated by a serpentine hammer and a single trigger.
The barrel is carbon steel with an under-rib and two ramrod thimbles, and it wears open iron sights: a dovetailed front blade on a short ramp and a folding/adjustable rear leaf. A wood ramrod with brass-tipped jag is installed for loading and field maintenance.
The hardwood stock has a walnut finish and uses a single transverse wedge/key fore-end. A shotgun-style buttplate and quick-detach sling swivel studs are fitted, and a leather sling is installed. The length of pull measures 14.0 in, offering a full-size fit.
Barrel rollmarks include "New Englander," "THOMPSON CENTER ARMS, ROCHESTER, N.H.," ".54 CAL.," and the safety warning "Black Powder or Pyrodex Only - Do Not Use Smokeless Powder." The lockplate and hammer carry scroll-style decorative engraving that complements the rifle’s traditional profile.
This model was manufactured in the USA at Thompson/Center’s Rochester, New Hampshire facility and represents a discontinued early-1990s T/C offering in a versatile .54 caliber configuration.
