Parker Brothers DHE Grade 3 20 Gauge SxS, 28 inch Titanic Steel, Meriden 1905, Factory Engraved
This Meriden-era Parker Brothers DHE Grade 3 20 gauge, manufactured in 1905, pairs 28 inch Titanic Steel barrels with factory scroll and game-scene engraving. It retains classic Parker features including a concave matted rib with arrowhead flourishes, a doll's head rib extension, automatic ejectors, and double non-selective triggers. The bores are excellent, and a drop-in gauge measures the chokes at Full and Improved Modified. A ventilated red recoil pad with black spacer has been installed, yielding a 14.5 inch length of pull.
Condition
Overall Condition: Good condition, showing some signs of prior use and handling.
Bore Overall Condition: Excellent - Clean, mirror finish, no signs of wear.
Specific Condition Notes: The metal surfaces are in great shape for their age, with only a few spots of pitting and wear. The wood shows significant dings, gouges, and scuffs, but is salvageable with some TLC. The forend latch spring is broken. Barrel fit is fairly tight, and the top lever rests in the 6 o'clock position. The firing pins appear in great shape, and the ejectors are properly timed.
What's Included
- Parker Brothers DHE Grade 3 20 gauge side-by-side shotgun
Built in the Meriden, Connecticut period, this DHE Grade 3 is a factory-engraved example with sideplates showing scroll and pointing dog scenes and a bird scene on the bottom of the frame. The frame size is stamped 1 on the barrel lug. Engraving is factory, consistent with the DHE Grade 3 pattern of the era.
The 28 inch fluid Titanic Steel barrels feature a matted concave rib with arrowhead flourishes and a single brass bead. The top rib is roll-marked "PARKER BROS. MAKERS. MERIDEN. CONN.
TITANIC STEEL," and the classic Parker doll's head rib extension locks up the joint.
The hammerless, break-action design uses automatic ejectors and double, non-selective triggers. The splinter forend has a Deeley/Parker center latch, and the ejector forend iron is stamped "PATD. MAY 7, 1901." Ejectors are timed, and the bores are mirror-bright.
A drop-in gauge measures the chokes at Full and Improved Modified, a versatile constriction set for a 20 gauge of this configuration. The front sight is a single brass bead, consistent with the rib's field-ready layout.
The stock is checkered walnut with a pistol grip and a metal grip cap marked "PARKER BROS / MERIDEN CONN." The grip presents neutral with very slight right-hand cast-off. A ventilated red recoil pad with black spacer has been installed, yielding a 14.5 inch length of pull.
