The P238 Nitron pairs a stainless-steel slide with a factory Nitron finish and a black hard-coat anodized aluminum-alloy frame, delivering a durable, matte black presentation. The slide is marked "SIG SAUER P238," and the frame is marked "SIG SAUER INC., NEWINGTON–NH–USA."
It runs a locked-breech, short-recoil tilting-barrel system with a 2.7-inch barrel and a 7+1 capacity. Controls include a button-style magazine release, an external serrated spur hammer, a manual thumb safety, and a firing-pin safety.
Fixed 3-dot contrast sights are dovetailed into the slide, with a square-notch rear and a dovetailed front, providing a 3.8-inch sight radius. The slide uses rear vertical serrations for traction, while the frame features vertical serrations on both the frontstrap and backstrap, complemented by black ribbed grip panels.
