Made in Gardner, Massachusetts, it also carries period markings including a circled P on the barrel and a receiver patent marking.

The Topper Model 88 action is a simple break-open design with a top lever and an exposed hammer. It uses a single trigger and incorporates a transfer-bar safety and hammer block. Capacity is one round. The shotgun was made in Gardner, Massachusetts, USA.
The 18.5-inch plain steel barrel is roll-marked FULL and uses a fixed full choke. The chamber is 3 inches. The muzzle is drilled and tapped for a front bead; the bead is not present. There is no rear sight.
The barrel and receiver wear a uniform matte tan coating. Furniture consists of a black synthetic NEF-marked buttstock with recoil pad and a Choate synthetic forend. Sling swivel studs are installed at the forend tip and the butt. Length of pull measures 12.0 inches.
Markings include a circled P on the barrel and U.S. Patent No. 3,988,848 on the receiver. An AY serial prefix is present.
