This takedown configuration allows the gun to separate at the barrel/receiver joint for transport and storage. The 30 inch barrel is rollmarked FULL, and the choke is fixed to deliver the patterning associated with that marking.
The action is the signature Winchester exposed-hammer pump and is slam-fire capable. It feeds from a tubular magazine with a 5+1 capacity and uses open-top right-side ejection.
Construction is steel throughout the receiver and barrel, paired with walnut furniture. The stock features a pistol grip with a checkered wrist, and the fore-end is the ribbed corncob-style wood. Length of pull measures 13.4 inches.
Markings include Winchester oval proofs on the barrel near the receiver and barrel rollmarks with Winchester patent dates from 1890 to 1906. A Remington-marked replacement buttplate has been fitted. Built in the United States in 1909, this example represents the pre-WWI era of the Model 1897.
