Built by Toyo Kogyo in Japan during WWII, this Type 99 is the Short Rifle configuration with a 25.9" steel barrel and a steel receiver. It is chambered in 7.7 Japanese and uses a fixed 5-round internal magazine that is stripper-clip loaded. Japanese markings appear on the receiver top and shank.
The rifle retains a full-length wood stock with a metal buttplate, a left-side rear sling bar with an oval slot, and a front sling swivel on the lower band. A bayonet lug is mounted on the front band. The stock features a cleaning-rod channel; a rod is not installed.
Sighting equipment includes a protected blade front with squared ears and a tangent/ladder rear sight with a sliding elevator. Controls include the rear push-and-turn safety knob typical of the pattern.
Additional configuration notes: The bolt dust cover is not installed. The rifle is outfitted for service carry with sling provisions on the butt and front band, and it retains the short rifle characteristics associated with wartime production.
