The Maxim 9S is an integrally suppressed 9mm pistol with a modular baffle stack that lets the user configure overall length by removing two baffles. Factory-published dimensions are 9.54 in in short configuration (about 37 oz) and 10.75 in in long configuration (about 39 oz). Approximate sound levels reported are ~137 dB (long, 147gr) and ~139.9 dB (short, 147gr subsonic).
Its 4.38 in steel barrel is fixed and non-tilting, paired with a short reciprocating slide section featuring forward and rear serrations. The pistol is striker-fired with a trigger blade safety and a skeletonized trigger shoe. The polymer frame has molded texturing, and the pistol uses Glock 17-pattern magazines; one 15-round Glock magazine is included.
Sight alignment is straightforward with fixed iron sights: a front post on the suppressor housing and a rear notch on the slide. A removable top cover plate accepts model-specific optic adapter plates with the optic position fixed relative to the bore, maintaining zero through cycling.
Construction combines a steel barrel and bolt, a polymer frame, and an alloy silencer housing. The underside of the suppressor housing includes a KeyMod interface for an optional accessory rail. The platform uses dual serialization for the frame and the silencer module and is noted as the first holsterable, integrally suppressed 9mm handgun to reach production (beginning in 2017).
