Produced circa 1956–1963 with approximately 271,000 made, the Sportsman-58 introduced Remington’s gas system to the American market. This model uses right-side ejection with a right-side bolt handle and carries a 2+1 capacity, a result of the gas system’s design around the magazine tube.
The adjustable Dial-A-Matic gas regulator in the magazine cap allows tuning for light or heavy field loads. The barrel roll-mark lists U.S. patent numbers 2,645,873 and 2,675,638, reflecting the engineering advancements built into the action.
This shotgun is configured with a 21-inch barrel featuring a ventilated rib and a fixed Skeet choke. The twin-bead sighting system uses a white front bead with a mid-bead for quick alignment, and the chamber is sized for 2 3/4-inch shells.
Construction details include a blued steel receiver and blued metalwork paired with walnut furniture. The stock has a pistol grip, checkering, a hard rubber buttplate, and an oval inlay. Factory engraving shows an upland hunting scene with birds and dogs, and the barrel bears the oval REP proof.
