What’s Included
- Remington Model 17 20 Gauge pump-action shotgun
Designed by John Browning and built by Remington in the United States, the Model 17 uses a bottom-eject, under-loading receiver architecture. The barrel address includes Remington Ilion, N.Y. and a Browning patent reference, underscoring its place in early 20th-century pump-gun development.
This example is configured with a 26 inch barrel that was originally stamped FULL and later fitted with an aftermarket Poly-Choke adjustable choke at the muzzle. It retains a 4+1 tubular magazine; front sight details are not specified and are as configured with the Poly-Choke (see photos). The takedown construction allows the barrel and slide assembly to separate from the receiver for transport and maintenance.
The shotgun is chambered in 20 gauge and operates via a hammerless pump action. Furniture consists of a walnut semi-pistol-grip stock and a grooved walnut slide handle, both uncheckered, paired with a blued receiver and barrel. Length of pull measures 14.0 inches.
Collector-minded details include matching serial numbers on the receiver and barrel/slide assembly, bottom-eject operation, and the Model 17’s direct design influence on the later Ithaca 37 and Browning BPS. Its period production span of 1921–1933 places it squarely in a formative era for American pump shotguns.
