Built by Inland Division of General Motors during WWII, this M1 Carbine represents a U.S.-made receiver mated to an Italian arsenal rebuild performed at Fabbrica d'Armi Terni. The Terni boxed-star "FAT 82" cartouche on the buttstock documents the rebuild provenance and provides clear historical context for the configuration.
The carbine is fitted with an Underwood Elliott-Fisher 18-inch replacement barrel dated 5-44 and stamped with the U.S. Ordnance bomb. Receiver ring markings read "U.S. CARBINE / CAL. .30 M1," and the Underwood barrel marking is crisp and legible, aligning with the documented rebuild and component mix.
Late-pattern features include a Type III barrel band with bayonet lug, a four-rivet handguard, and an adjustable aperture rear sight with windage knob paired to a wing-protected post front sight. The stock is the low-wood pattern with the oval sling/oiler cut, correctly accommodating the included oiler and web sling.
Operation is the standard M1 Carbine short-stroke gas piston with a rotating bolt, chambered in .30 Carbine with a stated capacity of 20+1. The bore condition is excellent with sharp, well-defined rifling, supporting its strong mechanical presentation and shootable configuration.
