The XM17-E4 uses a compact bullpup layout with right-side ejection and a molded left-side panel. Controls include a cross-bolt safety, and the bolt release and magazine release are positioned at the rear grip/magwell area for direct access in the bullpup configuration. The receiver is metal, housed within an OD green textured polymer shell.
Its E4 configuration accepts STANAG/AR-15 magazines, and this rifle includes one 30-round Mission First Tactical polymer magazine. Capacity is 30+1, feeding the .223 Rem chambering.
The 16.5 in steel barrel is threaded and fitted with a multi-ported brake/flash hider featuring a crenellated crown. Short Picatinny accessory rail segments are located on the underside ahead of the trigger area and near the gas block, and the AUG-style vertical foregrip provides a secure forward hold. A rubber buttpad completes the stock assembly.
An integrated fixed-magnification optic is built into the carry handle for a clean, purpose-driven sighting setup. Manufactured in Bradford, Pennsylvania, this discontinued MSAR model represents the company’s approach to a U.S.-made bullpup using a short-stroke gas-piston system.
