The 3-inch heavy-profile barrel offers a compact overall length while retaining the steadiness and balance that heavy-barrel K-frames are known for. Fixed sights consist of an integral serrated ramp front and a rear notch cut into the top strap for a clean, durable sight picture.
This 10-8 features the round-butt grip frame with two-piece wood service stocks with S&W medallions and checkered panels. Controls include a smooth, narrow trigger and a checkered hammer spur, supporting precise double-action/single-action operation.
The cylinder is a six-shot, fluted design with a checkered teardrop-style cylinder latch for positive manipulation. The ejector rod wears a knurled tip. The barrel rollmark reads ".38 S.&W. Special CTG," and the right-side plate carries the circular S&W trademark.
As part of the 10-8 engineering change, the gas ring was relocated to the cylinder and the heavy barrel configuration was standardized. This example reflects that configuration, with blued carbon-steel construction throughout and manufacture in the United States during the 1980s.
