The stainless-steel L-frame provides a robust foundation for the 6-inch barrel with a full-length underlug, serrated top rib, and a shrouded ejector. The checkered cylinder latch and knurled ejector-rod tip are classic S&W functional details. The barrel is marked "S.&W. 357 MAGNUM," and the frame is marked "MADE IN U.S.A. … SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD, MASS."
This 686-4 runs in double-action/single-action and is fitted with a smooth-faced trigger and a target-style checkered hammer spur. It wears a one-piece black rubber finger-groove grip with S&W medallion for a secure hold.
Sighting equipment includes a micrometer-adjustable rear sight with a white-outline blade and a ramp front sight with a red/orange insert for quick reference. These are factory-style features appropriate to the model and era.
