Markings include the barrel legend "38 W.C.F." and the three-line 1871/72/75 patent legend with the Rampant Colt logo on the frame. It has matching visible serial numbers on the frame and butt, and the loading gate shows assembly number 018.
The forged steel frame is color case-hardened, as is the hammer. The barrel, ejector housing, and cylinder are blued, presenting the classic Colt finish combination associated with this era.
