The USP Compact .45 employs HK's modified Browning locked-breech system and integrates the USP mechanical recoil-reduction system. This setup is engineered for reliable operation with .45 ACP in a compact frame while managing recoil effectively.
Its 3.78-inch cold-hammer-forged barrel uses polygonal rifling, and the fixed 3-dot sights provide a 5.63-inch sight radius. The slide wears HK's black Hostile Environment (HE) finish, and the black polymer frame keeps weight and bulk low.
The pistol is DA/SA with a spurred hammer. A left-side manual safety supports cocked-and-locked use; there is no dedicated loaded-chamber indicator on this example—status can be verified via a press check/visual inspection through the ejection port.
The frame incorporates the USP proprietary accessory rail; use of standard Picatinny lights or accessories requires an adapter. Additional identifiers include German proof marks, the Heckler & Koch, Inc., Sterling, VA import mark, the "KH" two-letter HK date code on the slide, and matching serial numbers on the slide and barrel. The included 8-round magazines have witness holes numbered to 8.
