The Bushmaster Carbon-15 Type P97S is a compact, U.S.-made AR-pattern pistol built with lightweight carbon-fiber–reinforced polymer receivers. This micro-format 5.56mm NATO pistol features a 7.5" threaded barrel with a birdcage/ported muzzle device, a full-length raised Picatinny top rail with fixed ghost-ring rear and blade front sights, and a ribbed tubular barrel shroud. It carries the Ilion, NY rollmark and follows the Carbon-15 design with an integral trigger guard and a streamlined exterior.
Its direct-impingement action and manual safety deliver familiar AR-15 controls in a compact package. The pistol receiver extension is fitted with a foam sleeve and sling ring, and the upper is configured without a forward assist or ejection port cover. The composite carbon-fiber–reinforced polymer upper and lower receivers keep weight down and resist the elements while retaining AR-pattern functionality. An integral trigger guard is molded into the lower for a clean, snag-resistant profile.
A full-length raised Picatinny top rail runs the length of the receiver, carrying fixed sights: a ghost-ring aperture at the rear and a blade at the front. The barrel is enclosed by a full-length ribbed tubular shroud that provides protection and a consistent gripping surface.
The P97S uses a gas-operated, direct-impingement system and a semi-automatic action with a manual safety. The AR-15 pistol receiver extension includes a foam sleeve and sling ring for practical handling.
