Product Description

    1915 B.S.A. SMLE No.1 Mk III* Sporterized .303 British Bolt-Action Rifle, 25.2" Barrel, 10+1 Capacity

This rifle began life as a Birmingham Small Arms Company Short Magazine Lee-Enfield No.1 Mk III* dated 1915 and was later converted for sporting use. It keeps the fast-cycling, cock-on-closing action that made the SMLE famous, while adding a clean sporter fore-end with an ebony-style tip and brass spacer. Original military markings remain clear, now joined by Birmingham commercial proofs that validate its civilian service. The result is a full-size, Great War-era Enfield that blends historical pedigree with practical hunting features.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Good condition, showing some signs of prior use and handling.

Bore Condition: Good – Clean, well-maintained, minor wear marks.

Rifling Condition: Good rifling – Intact, well-defined lands and grooves.

Specific Condition Notes: Minor scratching, scuffing, and blemishing are present on the metalwork and stock.

    What’s Included

    • 1× 10-round SMLE pattern detachable steel box magazine
    • British pattern leather sling with brass keepers (installed)
    • Pivoting aperture rear sight base (installed)

Built on an authentic 1915 B.S.A. receiver, this rifle retains the original SMLE ladder rear sight graduated to 2,000 yards, while the installed aperture base offers a modern aiming option without removing the ladder. The sporterized walnut stock features a Monte Carlo cheek-piece and pistol-grip wrist, maintaining the full military butt for comfortable length of pull.

The 25.2-inch barrel keeps its original length, preserving the rifle’s signature balance and velocity in .303 British. A commercial ramp front sight with a drift-adjustable blade replaces the military protector, streamlining the profile for field carry.

Proof marks on the receiver and barrel—BNP .303, 2.222, NP 18.5 Tons, and the Birmingham proof view—certify the firearm for commercial ammunition and document its passage through British civilian proof testing.

Collectors will appreciate the clear “B.S.A. Co 1915” markings and the rifle’s overall symmetry with Commonwealth surplus sporters of the inter-war period. Shooters will value the smooth bolt throw, 10-round magazine capacity, and sturdy walnut furniture that has weathered a century with integrity.
