The split-bridge Mannlicher–Schönauer receiver and Schönauer rotary magazine deliver the smooth cycling this series is known for, with a 5+1 capacity in the correct 8x56mm Mannlicher–Schönauer chambering. This cartridge is distinct from the military 8x56R and is not interchangeable.
The rifle retains its classic stutzen configuration with a full-length walnut stock, right-side shadowline cheekpiece, steel nose cap, and a serrated steel buttplate. Fine checkering on the pistol grip and fore-end provides a confident hold, and the length of pull measures 14.0 inches.
Controls and firing features include a bolt-mounted flag safety and a double set trigger unit, offering a crisp primary pull with the option for a light set-trigger release when desired. Sighting equipment consists of a ramped bead front sight (no hood) and a barrel-mounted rear sight with a standing and folding leaf, marked with a 100 graduation.
Factory and proof details include OESTERR. WAFFENFABR.-GES. STEYR, MADE IN AUSTRIA, a "Patent" marking, and Austrian commercial proofs. Two rectangular claw-mount bases are fitted to the barrel shank and front receiver ring for traditional detachable mounts; no optic is present. The bolt and barrel carry mismatched serial numbers.
