Izhevsk Mosin-Nagant Model 1891/59 Carbine 7.62x54R, 20.2 in Barrel, 1943 Izhevsk Conversion, Matching Bolt & Floorplate
This Soviet arsenal-converted Mosin-Nagant Model 1891/59 carbine began life as a 1943 Izhevsk M91/30 and was shortened and remarked to 1891/59. It retains the Izhevsk arsenal mark on the barrel shank along with both 1943 and 1891/59 markings, and it features a round receiver with a straight bolt handle. Notable details include a 20.2-inch carbine barrel, no bayonet lug, a tangent rear sight graduated to 1000 m, and matching serials observed on the bolt and floorplate. Century Arms International import marks and a 1960 buttstock stamp further document its postwar history.

This arsenal-converted 1891/59 carbine is derived from a 1943-dated Izhevsk M91/30 and is correctly remarked on the barrel shank with both 1943 and 1891/59, alongside the Izhevsk arrow-in-triangle. The conversion yields a carbine-length 20.2-inch barrel, deletes the bayonet lug, and retains the M91/30-pattern tangent rear sight calibrated to 1000 m. It uses two spring-retained barrel bands and includes the proper carbine-length cleaning rod.
The rifle wears a blued finish and a hardwood stock with orange shellac, featuring a side sling slot and a two-piece top handguard. The right buttstock is stamped 1960. An aftermarket ventilated rubber recoil pad with white-line spacers and added rear sling swivel hardware are installed; the measured length of pull is 14.0 inches.
Markings include RUSSIA 7.62x54R and C.A.I. ST A VT, indicating import by Century Arms International (St. Albans, VT). The receiver is round with a straight bolt handle, and matching serials were observed on the bolt and floorplate.
The carbine is chambered in 7.62x54R with a 5-round internal magazine. It retains the Mosin cocking-piece safety and a set of iron sights: a hooded post front and a tangent rear sight graduated to 1000 m. These features, combined with the known conversion pattern, make this a well-documented example of the 1891/59 platform.
