Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 SPORT – FDE/Black Rimfire AR Trainer with Optic & Accessories
Built by Smith & Wesson for shooters who want full-size AR ergonomics without the center-fire cost or recoil, this M&P15-22 SPORT pairs a lightweight polymer receiver set with a carbon-steel, Armornite-finished barrel and a factory 10" free-float M-LOK handguard. Finished out in a two-tone FDE/black motif and already wearing a red-dot optic, it is ready for range days, Steel Challenge, or inexpensive defensive drills straight out of the box.
Condition
Very good overall. Light, superficial handling marks are visible on close inspection, but there is no noteworthy finish wear, no gouges, and no structural damage. The 16" bore is bright with a mirror finish, and the lands and grooves remain sharp. All controls function crisply, the stock locks solidly through all six positions, and the firearm shows only minimal evidence of prior firing.
What's Included
• Aimpoint-style FDE red-dot sight (installed)
• FDE vertical fore-grip that converts to a bipod (installed)
• FDE M-LOK rail-cover panels (installed)
• One factory Smith & Wesson 25-round FDE polymer magazine
• Magpul MBUS flip-up sights (uninstalled but included)
• Original thread protector (installed under flash hider)
Because this SPORT variant already incorporates popular upgrades—Magpul MOE stock and grip, slim free-float handguard, and a 1/2"-28 threaded muzzle—owners seldom feel the need to replace factory parts. Yet standard AR-15 compatibility means you can swap triggers, safeties, and most furniture at will. The polymer receivers keep unloaded weight around 4½ lb, making the rifle light enough for young or smaller-statured shooters while still balancing like a duty-length center-fire carbine.
The M&P15-22 earned its reputation in the Rimfire Rifle Open division of Steel Challenge; the fast-cycling blow-back action, generous magazine capacity, and negligible recoil translate into quicker transition times and lower split times than most iron-sighted .22s. For new shooters, the familiar AR manual of arms builds safe gun-handling habits that transfer directly to 5.56×45 platforms. Veterans appreciate the dirt-cheap practice—bulk .22 LR lets you drill malfunction clears, reloads, and positional shooting all day without hammering the gear or the wallet.
Controls mirror a standard carbine: safety selector, bolt catch, and a last-round hold-open magazine. The two-position safety works exactly like a center-fire AR—easy for trainers to demonstrate, easy for students to master.
Finally, this rifle is covered by Smith & Wesson’s lifetime service policy, adding long-term peace of mind to an already compelling rimfire package.
Ready to pin on the red-dot, load up inexpensive .22 LR, and start ringing steel? This M&P15-22 SPORT delivers that experience in a lightweight, accessorized, and competition-proven format.
