FN FNC Paratrooper Carbine 5.56mm NATO Pre-Ban Semi-Automatic Rifle
This Belgian-made FN FNC Paratrooper Carbine is a scarce, pre-1989 import that combines the reliability of an AK-style long-stroke piston with AR-style STANAG magazine compatibility. Only about 1,000 of these 16.1-inch Paratrooper carbines entered the United States before the ban, making surviving examples highly sought after by collectors. Its side-folding metal stock, two-position gas regulator, and appearance in the 1995 film “Heat” add to its appeal.

The FNC’s gas-operated long-stroke piston system offers proven reliability while keeping fouling out of the action. The 1:7 right-hand twist chrome-lined barrel stabilizes a wide range of 5.56 NATO projectiles.
A side-folding metal stock locks solidly for firing yet folds flat for compact transport—ideal for the carbine’s intended airborne role. The stock pairs with a durable polymer pistol grip and ribbed two-piece handguard to keep weight manageable.
The two-position gas regulator also functions as a grenade-launch cutoff, reflecting FN’s military design heritage. A spring-loaded ejection-port cover closes automatically, protecting the action from debris.
Factory Parkerized steel construction, hooded front post, and multi-aperture rotary rear sight round out a package that balances ruggedness with accuracy. Its limited U.S. importation, pre-ban status, and screen time in “Heat” make this FNC a standout acquisition for shooters and collectors alike.
