Product Description

Remington No. 1 Rolling Block Model 1869 Egyptian Contract Infantry Rifle, .43 Egyptian, 35-Inch Barrel – Antique Single-Shot

This antique Remington No. 1 Rolling Block infantry rifle comes from the landmark 1869 Egyptian contract—one of the largest early foreign orders ever filled by an American maker. Built in the late 1860s, it features Arabic barrel markings, a ladder rear sight graduated to 1,200 meters in Arabic numerals, and hardware set up for the long yataghan saber bayonet issued with these rifles. Collectors value this variant for its documented role in 19th-century arms trade history and its distinctive .43 Egyptian chambering.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Fair – Extensive signs of prior use and handling.
Bore Condition: Fair – Generally clean with some residue or smudges and slight corrosion.

Specific Condition Notes: The metal surfaces show moderate scratching, scuffing, and scattered blemishes. The forend is noticeably loose.

    What’s Included

    • Remington No. 1 Rolling Block Model 1869 Egyptian Contract Infantry Rifle

The rifle is chambered for .43 Egyptian; bore diameter measures roughly 11 mm. Verification by a qualified gunsmith is recommended before selecting ammunition.

Arabic script on the barrel and a crescent acceptance mark on the receiver confirm its Egyptian-contract pedigree. These markings remain clear despite the patinated finish, giving tangible insight into its service history.

The 35-inch barrel is fitted with an inverted-V front blade and an original ladder tangent rear sight. The rear sight’s Arabic numerals remain legible, preserving the rifle’s cultural and historical context.

Its single-shot rolling-block action, forged iron/steel receiver, and full-length oil-finished walnut stock reflect Remington’s robust 19th-century military design. The front band includes a stacking swivel and bayonet lug, completing the infantry configuration.
