Chambered in 7.62x51 NATO, the SCAR 17S uses a semi-automatic, short-stroke gas piston action with a rotating multi-lug bolt for reliable cycling. An adjustable gas regulator allows tuning for conditions and ammunition, while the 1:12 RH twist supports a wide range of traditional 7.62 NATO loads.
The 16.25-inch barrel is cold hammer-forged, chrome-lined, and free-floating. It is threaded and fitted with a multi-port compensator secured by an FN-logo jam nut, delivering a durable, serviceable muzzle setup ready for tuning and recoil control.
The monolithic aluminum upper receiver features a full-length numbered MIL-STD-1913 top rail (positions 11–41) with additional accessory rails at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions. Folding iron sights include a front unit at the gas block and a rear sight with drum adjustment, providing a complete sighting system out of the box.
Controls and furniture are designed for adaptability. The polymer stock folds, telescopes, and includes an adjustable cheekpiece and rubber buttpad. The ambidextrous magazine release and ambidextrous manual safety accommodate left- and right-handed users. The lower is polymer, the upper is aluminum, and the overall finish is matte black with FN Columbia, SC USA markings and MP barrel designation. Capacity is 20+1, and one 20-round steel magazine is included.
