The M&P-15 uses a semi-automatic, direct impingement system with a carbine-length gas setup. The flat-top upper receiver includes a T-marked Picatinny rail with S&W marking, providing a consistent reference for sight placement. A forward assist, ejection-port dust cover, and integral brass deflector are present.
Furniture is carbine-correct, with a 6-position, collapsible M4-style stock and an A2-pattern polymer pistol grip. The carbine-length, two-piece ribbed polymer handguard complements the setup. A bayonet lug and front sling swivel are integrated at the front sight base.
