The rifle retains the Sport-specific features that define the early model, including the brass deflector, A2 front sight base, and flat-top Picatinny upper.

The first-generation M&P15 Sport uses a slick-side upper that omits the forward assist and ejection-port cover while retaining a brass deflector. The upper is a flat-top Picatinny type, providing a solid mounting surface. The rifle is built on an aluminum-alloy receiver with a hard-coat anodized finish.
The 16" 4140 steel barrel is Melonite-treated and threaded, paired with a carbine-length gas system and an A2 flash suppressor. The 1:9 twist rate and 5.56 NATO chamber are marked on the barrel. The bore condition and rifling are excellent, reflecting careful prior handling.
Sighting equipment includes a fixed A2 front sight base and a detachable rear aperture sight. The carbine-length, two-piece polymer handguard has a ribbed exterior for a secure hold. An A2-style polymer grip and a 6-position collapsible stock with a rear sling loop round out the furniture; the stock features the S&W logo molded into the body.
Capacity is 30+1 with STANAG-compatible magazines. Controls include a selector safety. Length of pull is adjustable from 10 to 13.25 inches to fit different shooters and setups.
