The HK4 Second Variant is identifiable by its inlaid left-side maker's plate and forward diagonal slide serrations. This compact, straight blowback, DA/SA design pairs a hard-anodized aluminum-alloy frame with a steel slide featuring a removable breech block. It uses a heel-type magazine release and a slide-mounted manual safety, with no external slide-stop lever.
Chambered in .380 ACP as indicated by the "9k" barrel hood mark, this HK4 has a 3.35 in (85 mm) barrel and a 7+1 capacity. Sights are fixed, with a blade front and a notch rear, and a sighting rib runs along the top of the slide. Black checkered plastic grips with the HK logo complete the factory configuration.
Markings include German proof stamps, the BUND property stamp denoting former German federal government ownership, and the HK CHANTILLY Va import mark. Production and features align with West German manufacture in the 1970s and importation by HK Inc., Chantilly, Virginia.
The bore condition is excellent with sharp rifling, supporting the clean interior condition noted. The pistol includes three factory-style single-stack steel magazines with finger-rest baseplates, plus the original HK box and owner's manual.
The HK4 platform was engineered as a modular four-caliber design (.22 LR, .25 ACP, .32 ACP, .380 ACP). This example is configured for .380 ACP and retains the HK4's internal last-round hold-open that automatically releases when a loaded magazine is inserted.
