The M&P15-22 uses a straightforward semi-automatic blowback system chambered in .22 LR, with a 25+1 capacity and reliable proprietary magazines. AR-15-style controls include a charging handle, magazine release, bolt catch, and a two-position safety, offering familiar ergonomics and operation.
Its 16.5" carbon steel barrel carries a 1:15 twist and a threaded muzzle capped with an A2-style birdcage flash suppressor. The bore shows an excellent, mirror-bright finish with sharp rifling.
A full-length Picatinny rail runs across the upper and handguard, and the polymer quad-rail provides additional mounting surfaces. Removable iron sights include an A2-style front post and a detachable rear aperture sight.
The collapsible stock provides a multi-position fit with an adjustable length of pull of about 10.0" to 13.25". Overall length measures approximately 31" collapsed and 34" extended, and the rifle weighs about 5 lb.
