Product Description

Winchester Model 71 Standard .348 Winchester Lever-Action Rifle, 24 in Barrel, 1948 Production, Lyman 56-Style Receiver Sight, Half Magazine

A heavy-duty lever-action produced from 1935 to 1958, the Winchester Model 71 is widely regarded as the "last word in lever-action guns." Built on a refined Model 1886 frame and chambered exclusively for the powerful .348 Winchester, this 1948 Standard-grade rifle pairs classic Winchester Proof Steel construction with a 24-inch barrel, top-eject receiver, and a receiver-mounted micrometer aperture sight.

    What's Included
    • Winchester Model 71 Standard lever-action rifle chambered in .348 Win.
    • Hooded ramp front sight.
    • Receiver-mounted micrometer aperture sight (Lyman 56-style).
    • Detachable-style sling base mounted under the receiver just ahead of the lever.

This Standard-configuration Model 71 was manufactured in 1948 and features a 24-inch round Winchester Proof Steel barrel with a bright, in-the-white muzzle face. The barrel rollmark includes 'WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL' and 'MODEL 71-348 W.C.F.' The blued receiver is the classic top-eject type, paired with a half-length tubular magazine that holds four rounds.

Sighting equipment consists of a hooded ramp front sight and a receiver-mounted micrometer aperture sight in the Lyman 56 style. The receiver is drilled and tapped for a two-screw Lyman 56-style peep, and the rear barrel dovetail is neatly filled with a blank, reflecting the receiver-sight setup.

The rifle wears an uncheckered walnut pistol-grip stock without a grip cap, a rounded fore-end with a blued steel forend cap, and a checkered steel shotgun-style buttplate. Length of pull measures 13.5 inches. A detachable-style sling base is mounted under the receiver just ahead of the lever for field carry.

Built on the refined Model 1886 action and chambered exclusively in .348 Winchester, the Model 71 combined robust construction with notable power. Its 1935–1958 production run and purpose-built design have made it a standout among American lever guns and a respected piece for enthusiasts of classic Winchester rifles.
