The FNAR Heavy uses a semi-automatic, short-stroke gas piston system derived from the Browning BAR, delivering consistent operation with 7.62x51 NATO. It features right-side charging and ejection, an ambidextrous magazine release, a cross-bolt safety, and a two-stage, non-adjustable trigger. A bolt-forward indicator (red dot) provides a clear visual status of the action.
Its 20-inch heavy-profile barrel is chrome-moly steel, cold hammer forged, and fluted. The bore and chamber are hard-chromed, and a recessed crown completes the build. The 1:12 RH twist supports a broad range of 7.62x51 projectiles.
The receiver is machined from 7075-T6 aluminum with a hard-anodized finish. A one-piece M1913 Picatinny top rail runs approximately 9.75 inches for mounting equipment, while the synthetic forend integrates a tri-rail with side rails and an extended bottom rail plus a forward sling/bipod stud. The rifle is shipped without sights.
The fixed synthetic stock includes an integral pistol grip with the FN logo, interchangeable cheekpieces, multiple recoil pads, and a shim kit to fine-tune fit. Length of pull measures 13.75 inches, and a rear sling swivel stud is installed.
This rifle uses proprietary FNAR detachable box magazines and comes with three factory 20-round steel magazines. Markings include the FN oval logo, FNAR 7.62x51 MM, FN HERSTAL BELGIUM, and FNH USA FREDERICKSBURG, VA.
