The JAKL uses a long-stroke gas piston with an adjustable gas system and a multi-lug rotating bolt for right-side ejection. Its bufferless architecture eliminates the need for a receiver extension, while AR-15-pattern lower controls keep manual of arms familiar. A manual safety selector is standard.
A monolithic upper/handguard provides a continuous 1913 top rail with accessory slots along the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions. The side-mounted charging handle is reversible and non-reciprocating, allowing user preference without adding movement during firing.
The 14" barrel is threaded 1/2x28 and ships with a muzzle device installed. Chambering is 5.56mm NATO, and the rifle accepts AR-pattern detachable magazines with a 30+1 capacity.
Furniture includes an adjustable stock with a hinged adapter block and a rubber buttpad, plus a Magpul pistol grip. Length of pull is adjustable from 11 to 14 inches. The aluminum receiver and handguard wear a uniform Flat Dark Earth finish, and the receiver is marked "Palmetto State Armory West Columbia, S.C." Made in the United States.
