The 16.1 inch barrel is threaded and fitted with an A2 birdcage flash suppressor. A carbine-length gas system and a 1:8 RH twist support a wide range of 5.56mm NATO loads. A standard delta ring retains the carbine-length two-piece polymer handguard.
The flat-top upper receiver provides a Picatinny rail and includes a forward assist, case deflector, and ejection-port cover. The lower is marked AR-556. Receiver markings indicate Mayodan, North Carolina, and the aluminum receivers wear a matte black finish.
Sighting is via an A2-style fixed front sight base paired with a Ruger flip-up rear aperture. Ruger-branded polymer furniture includes a carbine-length handguard with Ruger medallion, a polymer pistol grip, and a 6-position telescoping stock with a 10 to 13.25 inch adjustable length of pull.
The rifle uses a semi-automatic, direct impingement action with a manual safety. Capacity is 30+1. Three magazines are included; the magazines shown include Magpul PMAG polymer and steel USGI-style examples.
