The CMP-stamped stock and CMP provenance provide clear, desirable documentation of this rifle’s post-service history. The receiver heel carries the correct marking: "U.S. RIFLE CAL .30 M1 SPRINGFIELD ARMORY," and index lines are visible on the receiver heel.
Built in the 1955–1957 window, this rifle retains the standard service-rifle configuration with an internal 8-round magazine fed by en-bloc clips, a bayonet lug, and a stacking swivel. The operating rod handle and clip latch are on the right side, as issued.
The sighting system is the classic GI setup: an aperture rear sight with windage and elevation drums (non-lock-bar) paired with a wing-protected front blade. This arrangement offers robust protection and repeatable adjustments consistent with the platform’s design.
The 24-inch barrel and gas-operated, long-stroke piston action deliver the M1’s well-known operating characteristics. Steel parts wear a Parkerized ordnance finish, and the stock set is oil-finished hardwood with sling swivels and two-piece upper handguards.
Component markings include a Springfield Armory bolt marked D28287-12SA. Overall presentation aligns with a clean CMP-sourced rifle, with the added assurance of an excellent, mirror-bright bore.
