The M249S Para retains the proven gas-operated, long-stroke piston system and runs from a closed bolt in semi-automatic. Its formed steel receiver houses a numbered MIL-STD-1913 top-cover rail for mounting, and the package includes an integral steel bipod and a folding carry handle for transport and support.
The 16.1 in alloy steel barrel is cold hammer-forged and chrome-lined with a 1:7 RH twist to stabilize modern 5.56mm NATO projectiles. A permanently attached Para muzzle device with a multi-port flash suppressor completes the legal length while preserving the compact Para profile.
True to the M249 lineage, this rifle offers dual-feed operation: belt-fed using M27 disintegrating links or box-fed via standard STANAG magazines. Its polymer handguard uses a heat shield and cooling holes to manage sustained firing characteristics, while the adjustable iron sights include a protected front post and a flip-up rear with a BDC to 1,000 meters. Sight radius is 21.25 in.
Ergonomics and dimensions match the Para role, with a collapsible twin-rod stock, rotating wire buttplate, and rear sling loop. Overall length adjusts from 31.5 to 37.0 in, weight is 16.9 lb, and length of pull measures 15.5 in. The rifle displays numerous USGI-style part numbers and FN CAGE code markings (MFR 3S679), consistent with FN America production in Columbia, SC.
