Why other buyers offer less than your gun is worth

Pawn shops and gun stores don't pay what your gun is worth. They pay what they can afford after their own costs.

They start at the price they expect to resell it for, then subtract their profit margin, their floor costs, and the months your gun might sit in the case before it moves. What's left is your offer, and it often lands at less than half of what the gun is actually worth.

Gun buybacks skip appraisal entirely. They do flat-rate gift cards by category, so a common shotgun and a collectible Winchester get "priced" the same.

Private buyers are a coin flip. Some pay fairly, but their number is a guess, not an appraisal. And if they cancel, haggle you down at the meetup, or never show, you're left right back where you started.

How we price your gun

When you submit a gun to us, a real person prices it, not software. Military and law enforcement veterans, licensed gunsmiths, and career appraisers. Between them, they've appraised more than 250,000 guns. They price against what guns like yours have actually sold for recently, not against a resale margin.

We resell too. The difference is where. A shop prices for one walk-in customer in one town. We sell into a national auction market where guns like yours bring market price, and that's why our offer beats the counter.

Ask the expert who priced your gun how they got the number, and bring your own comps. Our completed sales as a Top-10 GunBroker seller are public, so you can check the market we priced against yourself.

How the Best Price Guarantee Works

Step 1

Get their offer in writing. A quote from a federally licensed dealer, naming the make, model, condition, and serial number of your gun. Only got a verbal number? Ask the dealer to email it to you. Most will.

Step 2

Send it with your submission. Attach it to the form or email it over.

Step 3

We beat it. Once we verify the offer against current market values and the gun matches what was quoted, their number becomes your floor and you take the bigger offer.

Your offer is a commitment, not an estimate. Describe your gun accurately and you're paid the full amount the day it arrives.

Check us out before selling your guns

We've paid more than $40 million to gun owners. Before you take our word for any of it, verify us yourself: we're a federally licensed dealer, and you can confirm our license with the ATF in 30 seconds. The address on your shipping label matches the license on file.

Read what 2,900+ sellers said after they got paid. Many of them came here holding a number that felt wrong and left with one that didn't.

Gun buying on FirearmLand is powered by Cash for Arms, our sister company and the licensee on every purchase. Same team, same federal license, same guarantee.

This company was very easy to work with. They always answered any questions I had quickly and fully. I was selling my husbands hunting rifle which I new very little about but they made the sale easy and fair. I received a competitors quote which was a little higher than their appraisal I sent it to them and in no time they matched it and beat it. I felt confident with them after reading many reviews. I shipped it, they received it and I received payment the same day. Couldn’t be happier and would definitely do business with them again.

Cash for Arms was much easier to use than I thought it would be, and the appraisal process resulted in a better offer for my firearms than other sites. Getting paid was also smooth and quick. I've got to say, I was more than pleased with the results.

Very friendly folks and they have a straightforward and efficient system set up for evaluating the condition of your goods, giving you a value, mailing in your goods with prepaid labels. The only regret I had was not using them earlier, as they gave *significantly higher valuations* on all my firearms than the local gun shop that wanted to bargain. Will not hesitate to use CFA the next time! Solid communication.

Awesome experience: from appraisal to payment, the process was fast and easy. They handled everything, and got me $700 more than any gun store in my area. Would absolutely use again, and highly recommend their services. Thank you again!

Working with this team was a very easy and pleasant experience. The offers they provided were much higher than a few local stores that I asked for similar appraisals. The team responded to all inquires and questions extremely fast. Once the items were shipped on my end, inspection and payment happened promptly. Couldn’t be more happy with the sale or general experience.

They say there is a first time for everything so in this case I decided to sell two of my weapons. I was reluctant but I live in Illinois and I learned when I took my conceal carry license should I have to defend myself or others the gun laws in this state stack the deck against me. It is a shame. Anyway, I found two companies that offered the service of purchasing my weapons. I am not going to mention the other. Cash for Arms paid attention to my needs immediately. In fact, every question asked on multiple occasions was answered almost immediately. Even in off hours. They were courteous and willing to work with me and their offer was considered fair. If you are thinking of selling any of your weapons Cash for Arms is the one to contact first. I am sure you will be pleased with the manner in which they treat their customers.

100% satisfied. I was concerned about sending my gun and then being told it was worth less than the offer. But that didn’t happen. The offer was 25% more than from the local shops. And I was paid exactly what was offered. Highly recommend with no reservations.

Cash for Arms was fantastic to deal with. I was looking to sell two mint condition firearms and locally, given the current market where I live, gunshops were helpful, apologetic, but useful.

I learned about Cash For Arms searching for options. I requested a quote, providing detailed pictures and specs of what I was looking to sell. Very quickly, I received an offer which I accepted. While I certainly didn’t get what I paid, I did get an offer for much more than I could have gotten locally.

They were willing to take all modifications and accessories into consideration. Once I agreed to their offer, they sent me labels that day. Once they received my firearms, they inspected them and sent payment the same day.

Communication was fantastic throughout. I highly recommend CFG if you’re looking to sell. Thanks!

Questions sellers ask before they submit

What qualifies for the Best Price Guarantee?

An offer qualifies if it's the initial offer coming from a federally licensed dealer, arrived in writing, and names your gun specifically: make, model, condition, and serial number. Send the original email or a clear screenshot of it, as long as the dealer, your gun, and the number are legible. We then check it against current market values to confirm and beat it.

Do gun buybacks and private offers count?

The guarantee covers written offers from licensed dealers. A buyback pays a flat rate by category and a private buyer has no appraisal behind their number, so neither one is something we can price against. Submit your gun anyway. You'll get a real number from an appraiser, free and no obligation, and you can compare it to whatever you were offered.

What if you come in lower than the dealer?

Then you send us their written offer and we raise ours above it. That's the whole guarantee. It's not a tiebreaker or a price match. It's a commitment that a verified dealer offer becomes the floor we beat.

If you never got anything in writing, submit your gun anyway. Our offer is free, carries no obligation, and holds for 14 days.

Will the price change after I ship?

No. The offer you accept is the amount we pay. Payment goes out the same day it arrives.

The one thing that changes an offer is a gun that does not match its description. If your rifle arrives with a cracked stock you didn't mention, we send a revised offer. You're free to decline it, and we ship the gun back to you. Nothing gets kept and repriced without your agreement.

How fast does this happen?

Most offers arrive in under 2 hours. We buy 365 days a year, so a Sunday submission gets the same treatment as a Tuesday one.

From there, the pace is yours. Your offer holds for 14 days. When you accept, we send a prepaid label, the carrier can pick up the package at your door (for free!), and you're paid the day your gun arrives. Most sellers finish the whole thing within a week.

What if I don't have time to shop around?

Then don't. The guarantee is there for people who want to compare, not a requirement. If you're moving and the date's coming up, say so when you submit and we'll work on it. If you need the money this week rather than next, that's also doable. You'll have a number in about two hours either way.

What do you buy?

All types of guns, plus optics, parts, magazines, and factory ammunition. Common or collectible, both have a market price. Everything you send comes back as one written offer.

Your instinct said the offer was low. Your instinct was right.
