Centro de Estudios Técnicos de Materiales Especiales (CETME) of Spain was founded in 1949 by the Instituto Nacional de Industria (INI). In 1984 it merged into Empresa Nacional Santa Bárbara, after which CETME no longer operated as an independent brand, with subsequent Spanish small-arms production continuing under Santa Bárbara (later Santa Bárbara Sistemas). Its legacy centers on roller-delayed blowback rifles whose lineage directly led to the German G3 produced by Heckler & Koch under license.
