Summary: An emblem of history and ceremonial grandeur, the Remington Model of 1917 Ceremonial Drill rifle is a collector's and enthusiast's dream. Manufactured in 1918, this bolt-action rifle not only epitomizes robust American engineering but also represents a unique piece of military heritage with its chrome-plated finish and original dark walnut wood stock.
Condition and Included Items: This firearm is in good condition, reflecting its age and historical usage with minor tarnishing on non-chromed parts and slight micro-scratches on the chrome-plated receiver. The original walnut stock displays some dings and dents, typical of its age and use. A webbed ODG sling accompanies the rifle. The bore is clean with minor wear marks and mild fouling, showcasing well-maintained, intact rifling.
Features and Historical Significance: The Remington Model of 1917 was pivotal during World War I, developed due to a shortage of the M1903 Springfield. This specific Ceremonial Drill model, with its eye-catching chrome-plated finish, was primarily used in military ceremonies such as parades and funerals, adding a solemn and prestigious element to its service. Unlike many ceremonial rifles that are demilitarized, this Model of 1917 remains functional for blank cartridges, making it not only a showpiece but also a piece of living history. While it's possible it can still use live ammunition, we did not test fire this rifle.
Collectibility and Appeal: The visible original proof stamps and cartouches on the stock enhance its collectibility, authenticating its historical and military provenance. Its functionality for blank cartridges also makes it ideal for drill practices or ceremonial reenactments, offering a hands-on historical experience. This rifle is a testament to American military history, particularly suitable for collectors of militaria or historical firearms, or for those involved in historical reenactment societies.
Why Own This Rifle? Owning the Remington Model of 1917 Ceremonial Drill rifle is an opportunity to preserve a piece of military heritage.
