Arsenal Bulgarian Makarov PM 9x18mm Compact, Pre-Ban, 1999 Production
This late-production 1999 Bulgarian Makarov PM combines the classic Cold-War fixed-barrel design with Arsenal’s chrome-lined, cold-hammer-forged barrel and forged/milled steel slide. Imported before the 2005 surplus-handgun ban, it represents one of the last coded pistols brought into the United States by D.I.G. Virginia Beach, VA. Its compact size, straightforward DA/SA action, and slide-mounted safety/decocker make it a practical shooter as well as a collectible.

Bulgarian Makarovs are known for their high-quality machining and consistently chrome-lined barrels. This example keeps that reputation intact with a bright bore and well-cut rifling that supports both surplus and modern defensive 9×18 mm loads.
The fixed 3.66-inch barrel is press-fit to the frame, giving the PM notable inherent accuracy and simple field-service. Arsenal’s chrome lining resists corrosion and eases cleaning.
A forged/milled steel slide with vertical rear serrations pairs with a steel frame, both finished in a uniform matte black. The slide-mounted safety doubles as a decocker, and the heel-type magazine release preserves the original military pattern.
The one-piece black polymer grip wraps around the frame and features palm-swell panels for a secure hold without adding bulk. Fixed sights—a front blade integral to the slide and a drift-adjustable rear notch—maintain the pistol’s snag-free profile.
This pre-ban import is marked “MADE IN BULGARIA” and the importer stamp “D.I.G. VA BCH VA,” indicating a relatively small U.S. import run. Its last-year date code adds collector appeal while keeping the pistol fully compatible with readily available parts and accessories.
