Product Description

    Remington Nylon 66 Mohawk Brown .22 LR Semi-Automatic Rifle | 1965 Pre-GCA Production

Introduced in 1959, the Remington Nylon 66 was the first mass-produced American rifle built around an injection-molded synthetic stock and receiver. This Mohawk Brown example, manufactured in 1965, merges its lightweight Zytel 101 construction with a 14-round butt-tube magazine and grooved receiver cover for tip-off scope mounting. Its pre-1968 manufacture means no serial number was required, adding extra appeal for collectors seeking an original, early-production Nylon 66.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Good condition, showing some signs of prior use and handling.
Bore Condition: Good – Clean, well-maintained, minor wear marks.
Bore Rifling: Good Rifling – Intact, well-defined lands and grooves.
Specific Condition Notes: Minor scratching, scuffing, and blemishing are visible on the Mohawk Brown stock and blued receiver cover, consistent with normal field use.

    What’s Included

    • Remington Nylon 66 Mohawk Brown .22 LR rifle

Engineered around a one-piece synthetic stock and receiver, the Nylon 66 set a new standard for lightweight rimfire rifles. The molded Zytel unit keeps weight down while maintaining rigidity, and its wood-grain Mohawk Brown finish delivers a classic look that resists weather better than wood.

This rifle uses Remington’s straight-blowback, semi-automatic action fed by a 14-round tubular magazine running through the butt. The buttplate follower knob doubles as the loading port, allowing quick reloads without disturbing a mounted optic.

A stamped-steel receiver cover features a 3/8-inch tip-off groove, so mounting a rimfire scope is straightforward. For iron-sight use, the factory ramped blade front pairs with an elevation-adjustable rear leaf for accurate plinking and small-game work.

Manufactured in 1965, this is a true pre-Gun Control Act rifle and therefore bears no serial number, a detail valued by many Nylon 66 enthusiasts. Approximately 716,000 Mohawk Brown rifles were produced, and examples in solid mechanical shape remain highly sought after for their proven reliability and distinctive construction.
