FN Five-seveN IOM 5.7x28mm Semi-Automatic Pistol – Early Civilian Variant, 4.8″ Barrel, 20-Round Design
The FN Five-seveN IOM (Individual Officer Model) represents the first civilian-legal configuration of FN’s famed 5.7×28 mm service pistol, produced in limited numbers for roughly two years in the early 2000s. This full-size, lightweight handgun pairs a cold-hammer-forged, chrome-lined barrel with a polymer-over-steel slide to deliver flat-shooting performance, high 20-round capacity, and very low recoil. Its scarcity, reversible controls, and period-correct Insight M6 light/laser make this example especially attractive to shooters and collectors alike.

The IOM was the launch platform that introduced the Five-seveN to the civilian market, and production numbers remain comparatively low. Serial number block starting with “3861” places this pistol firmly within the documented IOM range, underscoring its collector interest.
Its 4.8″ chrome-lined, cold-hammer-forged barrel works with FN’s delayed-blowback, single-action system to propel the bottleneck 5.7×28 mm cartridge at rifle-like velocities—around 2,000 fps—while keeping felt recoil minimal.
A polymer slide shroud over a steel core reduces reciprocating mass, aiding rapid follow-up shots. The ambidextrous manual safety sits above the trigger and moves down for fire, mirroring the P90’s ergonomics and setting the Five-seveN apart from typical service pistols.
The reversible magazine release, light-gray slide-stop lever, and fully adjustable 3-dot sights round out a control set tailored to both duty and range use. Coupled with factory 20-round magazine bodies (restricted here to three 10-rounders), the pistol offers an exceptional capacity-to-weight ratio at roughly 21 oz unloaded.
