Made in New Haven in 1950, this Winchester Model 74 represents the post-war evolution of Winchester’s popular blow-back rimfire. The rifle combines a sleek 22-inch blued barrel with a straight-grained American walnut stock. A 14+1 tubular magazine hidden in the buttstock, open sporting sights, and charging slot make this full-size .22 LR a practical and collectible piece of Winchester history.

    What’s Included

    • Winchester Model 74 .22 LR semi-automatic rifle

This Model 74 carries Winchester’s later “MADE IN NEW HAVEN – CONN U.S. OF AMERICA” barrel roll-mark and catalog code G7402R, confirming standard-grade production during the 1939–1955 run of more than 400,000 rifles. The serial number falls within 1950 manufacture, placing it firmly in the desirable post-war era.

The rifle features a 22-inch blued carbon-steel barrel paired with an ungrooved receiver top. A blade front sight dovetailed directly to the barrel teams with an elevator-adjustable rear sight dovetailed to the barrel, giving shooters classic sporting sight alignment.

Winchester engineered the 14-round tubular magazine inside the buttstock, loaded through an oval port secured by a spring-latch follower. This keeps the fore-end slim and the balance centered while still offering generous capacity for plinking or small-game use.

The single-stage trigger complements the simple blow-back action. The charging handle slot allows easy manual cycling, and the rear bolt assembly pops out for straightforward breech-to-muzzle cleaning.

The straight-comb walnut stock wears an oil finish and retains its original steel butt-plate. Absent of checkering or embellishment, the stock’s plain semi-pistol-grip profile reflects Winchester’s utilitarian approach for this model and era.
