Jianshe Arsenal Type 56 SKS 7.62x39 – Combat Exchange Monte Carlo Stock with Detachable 30-Round Magazine
Built at China’s Jianshe Arsenal in 1969, this Type 56 SKS shows the classic milled-steel construction of the Vietnam War era while wearing a period Combat Exchange Monte Carlo synthetic stock and a detachable-magazine conversion. The result is a full-size 7.62x39 semi-auto that blends historic Chinese military manufacture with early U.S. sporterization features.
Condition
Overall Condition: Fair condition, showing extensive signs of prior use and handling. Scratches, finish blemishes, and scattered light pitting or rust are present but do not affect function.
Bore Condition: Fair – Generally clean with minor residue and slight corrosion. Rifling is worn with some loss of definition.

The Combat Exchange stock replaces the original wood furniture with a glass-filled nylon Monte Carlo design that adds a pistol grip, molded checkering, and a ventilated rubber recoil pad.
A receiver cover with an integrated scope rail is installed, giving the rifle mounting capability without altering the original top cover dimensions. Paired with a ventilated metal tube handguard, the package reduces weight and improves cooling compared with the factory wood.
The barrel retains its chrome-lined, four-groove interior and full 20.5-inch length, preserving the SKS’s well-known reliability with 7.62x39 ammunition. Original hooded front sight with a slot/opening at the top and tangent rear sights remain in place and functional.
The detachable-magazine conversion modifies the magazine well to accept the included 30-round steel box. The original magazine catch and latch tongue are retained, allowing rock-in insertion familiar to SKS users.
Arsenal code triangle 26 and the Chinese 五六式 markings are still clear on the left receiver wall, offering collectors verifiable factory and model identification despite the modernization work.
