Colt M1908 Vest Pocket Hammerless .25 ACP Pistol – 1920 Production, 2″ Barrel
The Colt M1908 Vest Pocket is one of the classic early 20th-century pocket autos, prized for its slim profile and simple striker-fired design. This 1920-dated example remains mechanically functional and retains its original black synthetic grips, offering collectors a genuine piece of Colt history in shootable condition. The factory blued finish has been stripped, giving the metal a uniform matte appearance that reveals honest wear from a century of handling.
Condition
Overall Condition: Fair – extensive signs of prior use and handling.
Bore Condition: Fair – generally clean, some residue or smudges, slight corrosion.
Rifling Condition: Fair – worn rifling, slight loss of definition.
Specific Condition Notes: The pistol is functional. The right-hand grip panel is cracked. The original blued finish has been completely stripped, and widespread scratching and blemishing are visible on all metal surfaces.
What’s Included
- Colt M1908 Vest Pocket Hammerless pistol
- No magazine is provided
Manufactured in 1920, this M1908 falls well within C&R eligibility, making it an accessible addition for collectors of early Colt automatics.
The 2″ barrel and integrated low-profile sights keep the profile compact, mirroring John Browning’s goal of true pocket carry. Despite finish loss, the steel surfaces show no structural damage, and the striker-fired action cycles and dry-fires without issue.
Original black synthetic grips remain installed; the left panel is intact while the right panel bears a crack that does not impede handling. Replacement grip panels are widely available if restoration is desired.
Because no magazine is included, the capacity is effectively single-shot until a correct Colt or aftermarket magazine is sourced. Standard six-round magazines are still produced, making it straightforward to return the pistol to full functionality.
