Product Description

    Smith & Wesson Model 39 9mm DA/SA Semi-Auto Pistol – 4" Barrel, Alloy Frame, 8+1, 1979 – Original Box, Mags & Holster

Manufactured in 1979, this Smith & Wesson Model 39 represents the refined second generation of America’s first successful double-action/single-action 9 mm pistol. The dash-2 upgrade added a short pivoting extractor for improved reliability, while retaining the alloy frame that made the Model 39 notably lighter than its steel-framed contemporaries. Offered here with its factory blue box, period manual, two original 8-round magazines, and a leather OWB holster, this full-size handgun is a solid example for shooters and collectors alike.

    Condition
Overall Condition: Good – shows some signs of prior use and handling. Minor scratching, scuffing, blemishing, and light finish loss are present.
Bore Condition: Good – clean, well-maintained, minor wear marks.
Bore Rifling: Good Rifling – intact, well-defined lands and grooves.

    What’s Included

    • Original Smith & Wesson blue two-piece cardboard box
    • Smith & Wesson Model 39 instruction sheet
    • Two factory 8-round single-stack magazines
    • Brown leather outside-the-waistband holster

This Model 39-2 features a polished blued carbon-steel slide with rear cocking serrations and an external short pivoting extractor—an upgrade that distinguished the dash-2 series from earlier variations.

The black anodized aluminum-alloy frame keeps weight down without sacrificing durability. Checkered walnut grips with gold-tone S&W medallions offer a classic appearance and positive purchase.

Shooting controls include a slide-mounted safety/decocker, magazine disconnect safety, and a curved blued trigger that delivers double-action first shots followed by crisp single-action cycling.

Sights consist of a serrated integral ramp front blade and a fully micrometer-adjustable rear unit, allowing precise windage and elevation adjustments without aftermarket parts.

As the direct ancestor of the later 39xx and 59xx series, the Model 39-2 holds an important place in U.S. service-pistol development, and its 1979 production date places it firmly within the era most sought after by enthusiasts of classic S&W semi-autos.
