The SD40 is a compact, striker-fired, short-recoil, semi-automatic pistol chambered in .40 S&W. This example is from the first-generation SD series produced circa 2010–2012 in the United States, preceding the SD VE line. It carries a 4 in stainless barrel and a 14+1 capacity.
Its slide and barrel are stainless steel treated with a black Melonite finish. The slide has rear cocking serrations and no front serrations. The black polymer frame integrates a Picatinny accessory rail with two cross-slots. Catalog dimensions list an overall length of 7.2 in, width of 1.29 in, height of 5.5 in, and weight of 22.7 oz.
