The rifle retains its two-lug Mauser-style, cock-on-close action, noted for reliable feeding from the 5-round internal box magazine. The bolt root is electro-penciled with matching assembly numbers, confirming military factory practice.
Sporting modifications focus on reduced weight and cleaner lines: the fore-end is shortened, the upper handguard removed, and the bayonet lug, cleaning-rod housing, and finger grooves have been deleted; the anti-aircraft sight wings remain attached to the rear sight slider. These changes leave the chrome-lined barrel fully exposed for quicker cooling and a trimmer profile.
All major receiver markings remain legible. The imperial chrysanthemum has been ground per surrender requirements, yet the Japanese kanji model stamp and Tokyo/Kokura arsenal stacked-cannonballs emblem are intact, preserving historical context.
Sights consist of a front sight body without a vertical blade installed and an adjustable ladder rear graduated to 1,500 meters. The sturdy hardwood stock keeps its steel butt-plate and left-butt sling swivel, resulting in a 12.5-inch length of pull suitable for most shooters.
