Built at Jianshe Arsenal and marked with the triangle /26\ stamp and Chinese model designation 五六式, this rifle falls in the 9-million serial range associated with 1964–1965 production. The included importer marking reads CJA Southfield, MI, with an additional stamp of SKS 7.62 MADE IN CHINA CJA SFLD, MI.
The configuration is correct for the period, featuring a threaded short-lug 20.5 in carbon steel barrel, a short-stroke gas piston system with a tilting-bolt lock-up, a milled trigger housing, and a lightened bolt carrier. The receiver and barrel components wear a uniform blued finish.
The stock is hardwood with an oil-sealed finish, a finger-groove fore-end, and a bottom buttstock sling swivel. A three-slot wooden upper handguard with vents complements the stock, maintaining the classic Type 56 profile.
Sighting equipment consists of a hooded post front and a tangent leaf rear sight graduated from 100 to 1000 meters. The integral folding spike bayonet remains in-the-white, and the rifle retains its fixed 10-round box magazine with stripper-clip guide. Matching abbreviated serials are observed on the magazine floorplate, trigger guard, and bolt carrier.
